Simon Lister, Managing Director at ML Financial Associates featured in the Round the Table magazine this month. Round the Table is the official publication of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) organisation, where both Simon and Craig have been proud members of for over a decade, and Simon was the subject of a spotlight article on his route into the financial services profession.
MDRT was founded in 1927 and is the Premier Association of Finance Professionals. It is a global, independent association of more than 72,000 of the world’s leading life insurance and financial services professionals from more than 500 companies in 70 nations and territories. MDRT members demonstrate exceptional professional knowledge, strict ethical conduct and outstanding client service. MDRT membership is recognised internationally as the standard of excellence in the life insurance and financial services business.
Simon, who proudly holds the prestigious positions of Advisory Board Chair and a Member of the MDRT Global Council was interviewed at the very picturesque Wymondham Abbey.
In the article he talks about how he knew from an early age that he wanted to get into finance;
“Simon D Lister DipPFS was only 16 when he realised that he wanted a career in financial services. A devastating leg injury had just cut short any thought of playing football professionally and Lister had time to consider what his revised future would hold.”
And he went on to say what has helped him achieve his current position and how it is not only down to him;
“People can easily fall into the trap of I’ll do that next week he said, discipline is a bit part of what got me to Top of The Table.
Lister is sure to recognise that no one can work as an island and that his team is a big part of his success. He also highlights the importance of trusting, mutual relationships with colleagues and clients. These generate not just referrals but the openness to share goals and concerns and the gratitude that comes from being able to retire early or just successfully.”
Finally, Simon summed up at the end of the article how he feels about all his relationships with colleagues, clients and MDRT members;
“I want to give back as much as I possibly can and I just keep meeting incredible people who just blow me away all the time. The journey so far has been amazing for that reason. You just want to give back more because of people you get to spend time with.”
